The Human Digestive System

Over the next few weeks we will be writing explanation texts about the digestive system, which is our science topic.

For your homework please research the organs of the digestive system and the journey food takes through our bodies.
During your research take notes and then turn these into sentences in your own words.

  1. In the human digestive system, the process of digestion has many stages, the first of which starts in the mouth (oral cavity). Digestion involves the breakdown of food into smaller and smaller components which can be absorbed and assimilated into the body. The secretion of saliva helps to produce a bolus which can be swallowed to pass down the oesophagus and into the stomach.

Saliva also contains a catalytic enzyme called amylase which starts to act on food in the mouth. Another digestive enzyme called lingual lipase is secreted by some of the lingual papillae to enter the saliva. Digestion is helped by the mastication of food by the teeth and also by the muscular contractions of peristalsis. Gastric juice in the stomach is essential for the continuation of digestion as is the production of mucus in the stomach.

Peristalsis is the rhythmic contraction of muscles that begin in the oesophagus and continues along the wall of the stomach and the rest of the gastrointestinal tract.
This initially results in the production of chyme which when fully broken down in the small intestine is absorbed as chyle into the lymphatic system. Most of the digestion of food takes place in the small intestines. Water and some minerals are reabsorbed back into the blood, in the colon of the large intestine. The waste products of digestion are defecated from the anus via the rectum.

  2. Your digestive system is uniquely designed to turn the food you eat into nutrients, which the body uses for energy, growth and cell repair. Here's how it works.
Mouth-The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract. In fact, digestion starts here as soon as you take the first bite of a meal
Throat-Also called the pharynx, the throat is the next destination for food you've eaten. From here, food travels to the esophagus or swallowing tube.
Stomach-The stomach is a sac-like organ with strong muscular walls. In addition to holding the food, it's also a mixer and grinder.
there are the mot important thing in your body.

  3. Digestive System
Human body has 4 important systems, among one is digestive system. Digestive system helps us by taking Nutrition out of the food and supplying it into the blood.
The 10 organs which help in the digestion are
    1. Teeth, mouth, tongue
    2. Esophagus.
    3. Stomach
    4. Small intestine
    5. Liver
    6. Gall bladder
    7. Pancreas
    8. Large intestine
    9. Rectum
    10. Anus
The food comes into the mouth and the teeth chew the food. The tongue mixes the saliva with food. They send down to the esophagus. The esophagus pushes food into the stomach. The food comes into the stomach. In the stomach there is a liquid called gastric juice. The gastric juice mixes with the food and break downs makes food into digested food. As the digested food goes to the small intestine, three organ livers, gall bladder, pancreases produces green liquid called enzyme into small intestine. Small intestine absorbs nutrition from the food with help of enzymes. Small intestine is 25 feet long. After the nutrients are absorbed the food passes to large intestine which five feet long, water or liquid in food is absorbed by the large intestine. The remaining food is waste is sent to rectum from large intestine. The waste food is sent out from the body through anus

  5. Human digestive system
We eat through our mouth and we chew with teeth .Then food goes through oesophagus into stomach . Stomach bland the food makes a milky mixture called chyme.
Food does not go to the gallbladder or pancreas. Their job to provide the chemicals to digest the food. The liver also cleans the blood .
Most of the food digest in small intestines using enzyme then big intestine removees excess water and salts from indigestible waste material and make poo.
Rectum is the part of large intestine which store the faeces before they leave the body.
Anus contains wastes throughout from body.

  6. The scientific word for poo is faeces! The digestion starts in the mouth. The largest organ in the digestive system is the liver! The organ which stores the bile from the livre is the gallbladder. The organ which makes the digestive enzymes is the pancreas.

  7. The organs of the body system are:
    1- mouth
    2- oesophagus
    3- stomach
    4- small intestines
    5- large intestines
    6- anus

    The digestion process is:
    - mouth: the first step of the digestion is chewing the food to break down large pieces into small pieces to be easy to digest later.
    - oesophagus: when the food is swallowed after chewing, it goes really slowly down the oesophagus until it reach the stomach.
    - stomach: when the food reach the stomach, it stays there for about 4 hours and the enzyme secreted in the stomach break down the food such as the protein to be easily absorbed later.
    - small intestines: in the first part of the small intestines, the juices secreted from the liver and the pancreas works on the rest of the undigested food and break it down.
in the second half of the small intestines, the digested food is absorbed by the body via blood
    - large intestines: last stage of the digestion happens in the large intestines where any food that the body don't absorb it will be send to the large intestines and eliminated as body waste through the anus.

  8. The digestive system takes all of your food you eat and breaks it down and turns it in to energy. As soon as you take a bite of food the digestive system begins. Saliva which is in your mouth contains enzymes that starts breaking your food up immediately.
    MOUTH
The mouth is the beginning of the digestion tract. In fact digestion starts as soon as you take a bite of your meal.
    THROAT
The throat is also called the pharynx. The throat is the next destination for the food you have eaten.
    OESOPHAGUS
The oesophagus is a muscular tube extending from the pharynx to the stomach. the main function is to carry food, liquids and saliva from the mouth to the stomach.
    STOMACH
The stomach is a sac-like organ with strong muscular walls. It secretes acid and enzymes that digest food.
    SMALL INTESTINE
The small intestine continues digestion by using enzymes that break down food. The main function is absorption of nutrients and minerals from food.
    LARGE INTESTINE/COLON
It reabsorbs fluids and processes waste products.
    RECTUM
This is a chamber that connects the colon to the anus. Its job is to receive stool from the colon.
    ANUS
The last part of the digestive system. From here waste (faeces) is released.
